HOT TAKE
Wolfire Studios and Dark Catt Studios lawsuit against Valve has been given class action status by a US judge.

https://www.pcgamesinsider.biz/news/74841/judge-grants-wolfire-and-dark-catt-lawsuit-against-valve-class-action-status/

Understanding a Class Action
Class-action lawsuits represent groups of individuals who may be customers, employees, investors, or patients with a similar legal claim against one or more defendants. Lawsuits are certified by the courts with jurisdiction as class actions if they meet criteria spelled out in a legal rule known as Rule 23.

The criteria include the existence of a class of claimants large enough that considering their similar claims outside of the class action would be impractical or inequitable. A court order certifying a class action must specify the class, class claims, issues, or defenses, and must appoint the class counsel.

This happens about time when Valve released a document about history of Half life. In the video they pinpoint how hard it was for company to overcome a lawsuit with Sierra.

So now it is like... Does Valve has enough $ to cover a potential class action settlement?
Will they lower the 30% mark for fee? ( not same fee for small game devs etc. view the price list at IDK I give up. Too many articles adn too many choices it is like rabbit hole)

What I was trying to say... maybe we will get something bc it might also get some $ to the bank or it could be also genuine pursuit of pushing limits of gaming like Gabe told us. Personally I would love the second to be tru.

I am just reading some articles and connecting them together. Never seen anyone talk about it in this context. Would love you you share your opinions bc it might be changing the future.

It reeks of jealousy and pettiness to me..

Big deal being given to the 30% cut that steam gets from game sales like that's exclusive to Steam.. it isn't.
Microsoft Store, GoG and every single console storefront has the exact same % cut for digital game sales.

This whole BS narrative that Steam is a monopoly is absolutely ridiculous, if not outright slanderous.

Steam is as big as it is for 3 simple reasons.
It's been around a lot longer than most of the others, and millions of customers are already pre-financially invested into the platform with decent libraries.
Same reason most players never left World of Warcraft for other MMO's back in the day, even when some of them were better games.

Most people are not interested in dividing their game libraries up among's multiple different launchers on a single platform.. because i'ts ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying and messy and one of the big reasons we got into PC gaming in the first place was to have all our games in one easily accessible place.
Steam capitalised on that long before anyone else tried to mooch in the market, and that's why many, many customers remain here by their own free choice.

And lastly.. Steam is just flat out a better and more consumer friendly platform than the mediocre, and often greedy competition platforms are.
This again is largely due to it being around longer and having refined itself over the years to be as consumer friendly as possible.

Steam is not a Monopoly, it's just the best platform for PC gaming.
And rather than the competition rising the meet the challenge they're throwing a little B-fit like petulant children and crying to a corrupt government and consistently proven to be corrupt and unjust legal system to do something about it in their favour.

All these companies have done if you ask me by going after Steam like this is prove they don't deserve to be in this market space and cannot compete in it fairly.

Going after steam like that is no different than going after us, the customers as well.
They are essentially saying that we and steam need to be punished because we choose to play our games here and not on their platforms.
That we choose to play other games and not their's.

So I got nothing to say to those companies besides giving them a middle finger.
They don't deserve my money, they are a toxic element within the game's industry and I hope their companies fail and Valve kicks their a**es in court and counter sues them for the legal costs.
