steam.exe - Bad Image

A steam window popped up, titled Steam - Restart required, Thank you for participating bla bla, and a windows message box popped up (twice actually)

I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

After that it shutsdown. I opened steam again after that, seems to installed the update fine. Looks like the only issue is during that process but should be fine now. How do I know if I am still in the beta? Or this is now in release too? Can I join the Steam Beta Update now? Or stick to this (and have that Beta as well)?

Yup, seeing something similar today, I can't open l4d2 it pops up with a completing install box and throws an error similar to above, restarting my steam client now pops up with a dialog telling me to restart steam to apply an update (repeats this with every restart so)..

EDIT: Fixed mine by removing everything other then steam.exe sigh.

I have this problem as well, and i cannot play any games. Whenever i try to open Steam it says "(buildbot_winslave04_steam_steam_rel_client_ is not responding." It is pissing me off that Valve won't even listen to my support ticket. They are probably helping jerks who can't play one game. I CANT PLAY ANY GAMES!!!!!

this worked for me
Delete files and folders in your steam directory, except "steamapps".
then run steam installer. now it should update steam accordingly and work again.

I've had the same issue, however when this message came up, just about every other program I try to run comes up with that it's not working, things like Firefox, VLC even Microsoft's mouse and keyboard centre have all stopped responding. I don't know if it's related, but it seems like a bit of a coincidence that it all happened at exactly the same time.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!!
