They can be done in theory, but I don't know the engine well enough, whatsoever, to say that it absolutely can - especially when we aren't building it ourselves, but tampering with it aftermarket. I hope you're right :)

So true, haha. I guess if the idea was to reset it as though that was the first time you started but you just had better survivors, then I might see it differently. But this is all philosophical :). I'd suspect the greater reason is that a map reset just requires caching your people, talking to your RV person, and then restarting the map over - not a whole new game mechanic with lots of testing. I'd think they'll work in a better solution later - or the modders will.

Seems like talking about it as we are now, is the best bet. Then one of us or someone with greater efficacy, already has a blueprint :)

Personally, I find it hard to rationalize any form of replenishment. Maybe - somewhat in line with what you were saying - you could have it that if a person with lower wits searched something then you'd get a diminished return from what you should have gotten, and could later go back and find the remnants under the pretense that they had missed them because they weren't searching effectively.

For me, a lot of the proposed methods I've seen around have felt very "fourth wall" breaking. I assume that was another reason that they settled for a map reset.

Though I do submit that you pretty immediately break the fourth wall when you start messing with the code and trying to mod things, haha.

I believe the whole point of Sandbox was that it would allow you to keep going because the map resources get depleted. Rather than using some method where your supplies get renewed - they reset the map, essentially. I guess that answers your question with a "yes and no" :)

I think the best bet, to minimize calculations - though offering less randomization - would be doing an entire floorplan as the module as opposed to the rooms. That would make the pathing easier and also make there be just one array as opposed to a multi-dimensional arrray. That is to say that you just say "Hey house lot, which of these 3 houses do you want on you?" as opposed to "Hey house lot, which of these 3 houses do you want on you? Okay, we chose which of the three, now choose room 1! Okay, you did that, now two! Okay, now what style of hallways? Cool, now room 3! Now room 4?" Et cetera.

If we were able to modulate floor plans then this would be a first step to the next point of multi-room changes, which would make so many combinations across the map that you'd never play the same game twice. The modulation of the entire house pretty much does that anyway, depending on how many permutations you do per lot, 3 seemed decent enough.

That sounds interesting but I think that your gameplay would probably end pretty quickly at 100% :)

Regarding SketchUp
The only reason i couldnt import the Church with textures was cause the SDK exported it without them.
But i get most objects to work dispite the geometrical errors in this game's model.

I was just messing around, trying to make a spooky church because it seemed like a good demo of what we started doing. Thank you Warhead for the tip on the version issue with the SDK, that was the single barrier that had me blocked for days, haha.

Good call on the object exports @Game; with this I was just toying with the material opacity, colors, and glow because that didn't require anything but messing with it then copying and pasting the files; thus operating as a quick test method because I really should have gone to bed hours before then, haha.

I'm keen to see what all of you produce now that we've overcome the nasty parts. It looks like we're way ahead of everyone else on the harder modding, and not just editing the files anymore.

That was the original assumption @Alex. Note that Warhead is our resident expert on CryEngine :)

Seems like the SDK will be the pre-req for doing much of anything major, so if you happen to solve that bit - we're definitely interested if you get there first :)

I've been at this for like 5 hours and I still haven't achieved success, haha.

I got everything installed after working through the mire of broken links, 404s, typos, and general absurdity.I got it to be recognized by Blender, I got through the random errors it was providing with the script searching and interaction with the other programs and the final issue is that it can't seem to recognize any directories for exporting, haha.

Since it just - a single line above the error - was able to extract a Py script out of the directory, it must know the drive is there!

I'm reminded of that Eddie Izzard skit where he is trying to print and the printer is immediately next to the computer, saying it can't find it - "It's right there! Look!"

If you get that working, then I'll skip this for now :)
