Troubleshooting FAQ
Having trouble joining our servers? Laggy? Computer not working? Strange error messages? See if these resolutions below will assist you:

1.0ㅤThe Game Will Not Start

1.1ㅤVerify game cache.
Go to Steam→Library→Right-click Zombie Panic Source!→Properties→Local Files→Verify the Integrity of the game cache.

1.2ㅤUpdate your graphic drivers.
If using a laptop, search your laptop's make and model name, if you don't know it, it is typically found on the bottom of your laptop. Uninstall your current video drivers, reboot and reinstall.

If you are using a custom desktop and onboard GPU, search google for your motherboard manufacturer and model number. The motherboard name is listed on the board itself, so you will likely need to open your case. If using a stock off-the-shelf computer, search your computer make and model.

Be sure to uninstall your current drivers first. Then reboot.

Only install the video card drivers for your operating system. If you are unsure what Windows OS you are using, select Start→Right click: "My Computer" and read what it says under Windows edition.

1.3ㅤCorrupted install.
Your game install my be corrupted. Go to Steam→Library→Right click Zombie Panic: Source!→Delete local content. Wait for it to uninstall, and now go and manually delete the ZPS game content. You should delete all "zps" folders. These are located by default in YOUR DRIVE:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Source SDK Base 2007\zps but could be on another drive if your drive path for games is different.

Restart your computer and reinstall ZP:S.

2.0ㅤConnecting to Servers

2.1ㅤI can't locate the SL servers.
If not, try adding our server SL servers to your favorites. Go to Steam→Servers→Favorites→Add a Server→192.223.31.233:27016→Add this Server to Favorites. This will add cabin. The Community server is 192.223.31.233:27015.

You can also manually connect. To do so, enable your developer: Esc→'Options→Keyboard→Advanced Options→check 'enable developer console.'

Then open up your console with the "~" key. Type:
connect 192.223.31.233:27016

In some cases, a networking issue between your address and the server may cause the SL servers to be unreachable. This issue typically resolves itself in hours, but may take several days in very rare instances.

2.2ㅤI get the message, "missing map" when I try to connect.
You probably have either an antivirus or firewall blocking downloads from the server, or you have disabled ZP:S downloads. You can get all SL maps here.[www.specialistleague.com]

Once downloaded, place the map into your map folder. By default it is located here: YOUR DRIVE:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Source SDK Base 2007\zps\maps

2.4ㅤI get a "No Steam Login" error.
See our fixes for this problem here:

3.0ㅤGameplay Issues

3.1ㅤI'm experiencing high ping on SL servers.
SL servers are hosted in New York state. Users from North America and Western Europe should expect reasonable pings on decent internet connections (20-80). However, Eastern Europe, Russia, Asia Minor, North Africa, South-Central America, and Australia will expect high pings in the 80-280 range.

The SL servers are unfortunately, virtually unplayable in East Asia due to the distance and limited capabilities of this region's connections with North America.

3.2ㅤZombie play is laggy.
Try enabling old zombie vision instead (it's better anyway). To do this, select Esc→Options→Advanced→Check: "Old Zombie Vision."

Too many programs or high CPU and memory usage can also cause the game to lag. Turn off any programs like your internet browser before joining the game. Chrome in particular can cause ZP:S to become jittery when you play. Also, are you running any antivirus software? If so, disable that and try again. Still laggy? Are you on wireless? Try ethernet. If this does not work, try a direct ethernet line to your modem, skipping the router.

4.0ㅤGraphics Issues

4.1ㅤI see purple colors on things.
You are missing game or server assets. Some servers have custom content that needs to be downloaded. In some cases, really poor maps will be missing these assets, and the fix would be to hunt down the missing asset, which would be very difficult and time consuming, and generally isn't worth it. There is also the possibility that you are missing game content, in which case you will need to potentially reinstall the game.

4.2ㅤI see a huge red glowing "ERROR" message over people's heads.
You may be missing some server content. Consider downloading HL2 deathmatch or HL2 proper to resolve this.

4.3ㅤI see survivors as zombies that appear to be hopping along, or doorways that seem to open into the sky.
Open your console, type "record 1" (without the quotes) and then type "stop record". To enable the console: Esc→Options→Keyboard→Advanced→Check "Enable developer console."

5.0ㅤSound Issues

5.1ㅤI do not hear anything.
Check if your speakers and or headset is plugged in to the proper ports on your computer. If so check Esc→Options→sound→game volume. You may also need to adjust your windows sound volume. Click the sound icon on your desktop taskbar and select "mixer".

Some earbuds or headsets have a built in hardware mute button or volume slider, check to see if that is interfering.

Try a second set of speakers or earbuds to be sure your speakers or headset is not dead?

In some cases, you may also need to enable the sound hardware. Right-click the sound icon and select "playback devices." Enable speakers is the most common way to fix disabled hardware. This may also require a reboot.

You may have additional sound software that is adjusting your volume. Check your control panel for additional sound control software. Start→Control Panel→View by "Small Icons"→then select your audio software, if any. Things like Creative Control or Realtek software may be present and adjusting your volume.

5.2ㅤEverything sounds like it is underwater.
This is a result of healing yourself right before you are about to become a zombie. Unfortunately, this is hardcoded into the game and can't be altered. This issue will resolve itself when the map changes or you disconect and rejoin.

6.0ㅤMicrophone Issues

6.1ㅤI can't talk in-game.
See our Admin FAQ for some features of the SL servers that may alter microphone use.

Check what key it is set in ZP:S options. Default is middle-mouse. Try it in there to see if it works.

Check if your microphone is secured to the right input jack. On a desktop soundcard, it is usually pink. Also on a desktop, there is usually a jack in the back of your PC you can try.

Test our your mic in Windows: Start→Programs→Accessories→Sound Recorder.

You may need to update your audio drivers for your soundcard or motherboard. If you are using a laptop, it is almost certainly a motherboard driver.

Note that in-game volume adjustment is broken for ZP:S. You will need to adjust your volume in windows or on your hardware. In Windows, right-click the taskbar's volume icon→Recording Devices. From there, you can enable and adjust your microphone options.

There may be another application adjusting your microphone like a DSP enhancer. Your Control Panel should show these applications.

Windows Taskbar→Speaker Icon→Mixer→System Sounds→Recording→Right Click Microphone and "What-U-Hear"→Properties→Device usage or Settings in Playback through device, Custom tab, Levels tab, advanced tab.

Windows Taskbar→Right Click Speaker Icon→Volume Control Options.

Windows Taskbar→Show Hidden Icons→Volume Panel→(Creative or Auzentech sound card).

Some Motherboards use realtek audio drivers, which may have their own sound application. Start→Control Panel→View by: "small icons"→Select your sound driver program here.

7.0ㅤKey Bindings

7.1ㅤBinding keys manually.
You can set custom key bindings in your console (Default "~"}.

Here is what you type, for example, I am binding !mute to Q below:

bind Q "sm_mute"

You can use the command unbind to reset a key binding.

Note that rebinding 9 and 0 keys is not reccomended, as these are known to get messed up in Source, even if properly set. You may lose control of any admin menu or mute panels if you mess with these. 9 and 10 are known as slot9 and slot10 respectively.

7.2ㅤReseting all binding to default.
If you run into trouble, you can opt to reset al your key bindings by deleting your config.cfg file. This is located commonly:

Your Drive:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Source SDK Base 2007\zps\cfg\config.cfg

Be sure to exit the game first, delete it, then verify game cache, (see 1.1 above.).
