The in-game server browser has three categories of server:

• Official
  
• Community
  
• Modded

In October 2024, there were 154 Official servers, 639 Community servers, and 1,814 Modded servers. The Official servers had an average population of 77, the Community servers had an average of 19, and the Modded servers had an average of 17.

Until 2024, the server browser was quite slow - the History and Friends sections were practically useless. Servers can be sorted alphabetically, by population, or by ping; there doesn't appear to be a way to sort them by most recently wiped, though the entries for each server include a measure of hours or days that is easily assumed to be how recently each one was wiped. Generally, sorting by playercount shows the most recently wiped servers, because they get the most attention. Some server titles show whether the server wipes blueprint research progress, and they often have continent tags (although tags don't relate to the search function).
