Some servers don't reset each player's tech-tree research progress when they wipe, which may be referred to as a "soft wipe" or "No BP Wipe".

A wipe that does reset the blueprints is referred to as a "hard wipe" or "full wipe".

Some players enjoy the sense of progression in Rust, and prefer their blueprint progress to be preserved.

Some players might not enjoy trying out on an old soft wipe server, because while they're busy unlocking blueprints, their opponents that might have already unlocked every blueprint during the previous wipes and would already be crafting powerful weapons.
