Government presidential election
In "the last week" of a monthly wipe, the Government members vote in a Presidential election to determine which generals will take the role of president and vice president for the next wipe. The votes are counted in the Government Discord server.

The role of President is to pick a spot to build the Government village. If the President is not available when the wipe starts, then the duty falls to the Vice President. The Vice President is the general with the 2nd highest number of votes in the presidential election.

The new President would have their nickname in the Gov Discord changed to Mr. President or Madam President for the first few days following the end of the election, and likewise the VP becomes The Vice President.

Election origins
The generals were "capable of finding a mutually agreeable build spot days in advance of the wipe", but if a map was not known in advance then there might a discussion on where to build on wipe day itself.

Any time spent debating the build spot after the wipe had already started could feel increasingly frustrating, and would likely delay important progress in the early workbench arms race - it's difficult to gather and produce powerful weapons without a base, especially if the opponents you're fighting had time to build their own bases.

So the elections first started because the generals wanted to elect the most trusted general to make the "executive decision" on which potential building spot to commit to - this would eliminate any arguments. Officers and grunts could not vote in these early elections.

These elections were eventually automated in the Government Discord; the earliest recorded election was for October 2022. The President would then routinely pick the build spot (still with input from the generals if a map was available for planning the upcoming wipe).

The role of President informally encompasses various facets of team coordination. I believe that voters could vote for multiple candidates in the early elections, but by October 2024 you could only vote for 1 candidate.

Officer interest in voting
Officers had occasionally shown interesting in the idea of being able to vote in elections. On the subject of generals being able to vote in elections but not officers, a general said: "the concern is - you don't want anyone voting for president unless it's pretty certain they're really gonna show up and play."

Officers and grunts were given the vote in October 2024, albeit with weighted votes.

Campaigns
Members seemed to get their votes in early, but might change their vote as generals campaigned on issues such as build location and village security. Several campaign posters have been produced over the years, which were often posted in the Gov Discord officer's channel (even before the officers could vote).
