My official views: we shouldn't go around killing sleepers, but if they're naked and in the wild then it's open season. Bandits have been sepecially bad of late tho. Last night they hit me, destroyed my place (which was empty and unfinished, but secure) and killed me. To me, for a PvE server, that's not cool.

Yeah I can't connect either. Plus there was a wipe today, so everything is gone anyway.
EDIT: Apparently there was no wipe. I was able to log on today and everything is still there (my base is severely decayed even at the foundation level). The mods seem not to be working though, except for compass.
