Valve Witch Hunt?

What is going on with Valve and their Gestapo policies on certain groups like Hookups and Traders Guild? Why are they shutting these groups down? Does anyone have any inside information as to what is going on? Have any other groups been affected?

Alienating your subscriber base doesn't seem like a sound business practice and Valve has been so well known for community development. It doesn't make sense to what they are trying to accomplish.

Hook-ups was shot down for selling CD keys wasent it?

One of the comments in the last Trader's Guild announcement thinks that they could be targeted for advertising non-Steam deals.
I'm pretty sure Hookups was because of CD Keys.

Yeah, Hookups was selling CD keys directly, usually through a single person. It was shady as hell and I'm glad Valve pulled the plug on it.

They might be violating the user agreement but I dont know any of the details about whats going on, just guessing.
