What makes a good map?
I mentioned this in the tournament thread, but regarding tourney-friendly maps, things like spawning on weapons, or spawning equidistant to the same weapon, should absolutely be avoided.

I'm not really a fan of timed weapon spawns, cause I kind of feel like they're just there to put an abrupt end to the fight- If a battle goes on long enough for a blue shotgun to spawn, for example, it changes the dynamic of the fight, and one side is going to end up with the advantage. Sure, the faster player gets it, and maybe the better player can win without it, but I feel like it adds a "race element" to it. It changes a tactical battle with pistols, crouched behind desks, throwing boxes to try to disarm your opponent, or attempting to loop around to a "I was closest to the spawn and now I'm gonna chase you down until one or both of us are dead" fight. Which is fun, but from a competitive, tournament-minded viewpoint, is really a boring finale.

If there's going to be some kind of super weapon, I'd say there should be a couple, and they should be technically difficult to reach. Mostly due to lag- If it's easy for multiple players to reach a weapon at the same time, you end up with the "wrong hands" bug for someone, and that's just frustrating. And with there being a couple (Say, a revolver and a sniper rifle), then just because you lose the race to one weapon doesn't necessarily leave you outmatched in firepower, although you'll still be at a disadvantage for a bit, and your opponent could camp the other weapon. But it allows for the possibility to even the odds again.

I'd say excessive sources of high speed (jet packs, grappling hooks, spring) should be avoided, just because of the laggy situations that arise from them. If the online was better (Which I don't think is possible, and I mainly consider it a result of how fast-paced the game is), I wouldn't have an issue with it, but as it is, every kill I get and every time I get killed, while flying past someone, just feels like such a strong disconnect. I'm never killed exactly where I am, and I know that the lag didn't really play any part, but it just doesn't feel right, if that makes sense.
