ESL ONE COLOGNE ANALYSIS

Nip vs CLG
Nip: Allu, GeT_RiGhT, f0rest, friberg, xizt
CLG: Tarik, JDM64, fns, cutler, hazed
CSGL: 84:16
My odds: 80:20
My bet: Skip

NiP: NiP, like fnatic haven’t been to any tournament in quite a while, this would point to the fact that they have been working hard in improving as a team and Zeus said that they have been looking very sharp as of late(source: his vlog). This game will show what they have changed/improved. I personally see nip topping their group.

CLG: Mainly only known for their insane upsets on LDLC and fnatic and other than that haven’t really achieved much. I don’t think this team is anywhere near the level of nip, but if tarik steps up they can have a small chance. In a bo1 I see nip winning, but if you HAD to bet would be icb clg. Don’t get me wrong, skipping is hands down the best option here, especially since there are so many more games to bet on.

envy: kennyS, Apex, kioshima, nbk, and happy
f3: markeloff, worldedit, bondik, davcost, blad3 and bondik

Why: I don’t really think I need to analyze this pick. I don’t see f3 upsetting here, even if it is a bo1.

Kinguin vs LG
kinguin: rain, scream, fox, maikelele, dennis
lg: Coldzera, Fallen, fer, steel, boltz
CSGL: 74:26
My odds: 65:35
my bet: Undecided

Kinguin: This lineup has progressively been getting better and they have been working very hard for this major. Rain has really seem to come into form as of late and if scream and dennis are in form, this team can go very far. Coming off an online streak beating teams such as mouz and e-frag, they are looking sharp. Previous lan results really can’t be taken into account for majors because there are always new things about each team. (my personal opinion, feel free to disagree)

LG: Formerly known as KeyD Stars, this team is well known for upsets and being a very good team at set executes. Paring this style with almost a month long bootcamp, it is not a mystery why many pros are saying that this team is going to be the dark horse of the tournament. From what I have heard they have practiced with fnatic and nip heavily which should really help them.

Conclusion: I am very conflicted about this game. On one hand, LG deserve better odds, but on the other I have a gut feeling that kinguin is going to edge it out. I will update this later with my final bet. For now that’s just some information about both teams.

c9: freakazoid, n0thing, skadoodle, seangares, shroud
mouz: gob b, chrisj, nex, denis, spidii

My bet: small on c9

c9: A team who surprised most when they came out and made 3 straight finals of large lan tournaments that had top class teams. This is largely due to skadoodle, the star awper of america, and in my opinion, the best awper in the world. If freakazoid has been working on his individual game and if sean has a lot of set strats in mind, this is a very very dangerous team. They have been bootcamping and now are at the event prepared.

mouz: Since gob b and nex have joined, this team has been tenfold better. They have been bootcamping for 1 week, just like c9, and chrisj has said he feels very prepared. Mouz has always had a great track record against c9, and c9 has really struggled against this team, will they be able to break the barrier? We will see, but my gut is saying c9 here.

This game will come down to 3 things

Skadoodle vs ChrisJ(Skadoodle will be able to best chris in my opinion)
Gob b vs seangares (Who will make the better calls?)
shroud vs nex (Shroud has been rising has a star who is consistent whereas nex has been dipping a little bit, whether that is only an online thing we will only find out once the game starts)

I will be going small on c9 here.


titan vs navi
CSGL: 34:66

my bet: Small titan
Why: Both teams have been bootcamping, titan has struggled to make it out of major groups, but I have a strong feeling that titan will be able to pick this up. Go only small though.

renegades vs tsm
Really not much to analyze here, tsm is the better team but renegades has taken maps off of fnatic and nip. Go small on renegades here for sure and play the odds.

Now I know you are thinking there aren’t very many underdogs, but both the winner matches could have upsets.

I will be posting analysis tomorrow. I am on vacation, but since I am very excited I will spend around 7-8 hours writing analysis. It will be fairly long and will have a good amount of stats and reasoning. I will also update my spreadsheet with games that I personally am betting on.
