Can't open some table files
I'm getting a nasty error when i try to open my modded files to alter them. I can't open Unit_Variants, Variants and Unit_Special_Abilities. They all come up blank and i get the failed to open object reference is not set to an instance of an object error.

I reinstalled the app and updated the schema and i have nothing. I was trying to make unit cards when this bug came about and i found a thread from this group on a google search. It seems others have had this issue as well. Can anyone be of assistance in this matter? I really do need to open those files and i don't want to lose hours of work.

Here is the full error

I'm going to assume that you're modding Three Kingdoms since that is the title that PFM's table support is far behind on and it seems like those tables work from every other game. If I'm wrong, you can email me the broken packs at genreless@users.sourceforge.net along with the name of the game they're for and I'll try to quickly figure out what is going wrong.

Back to solutions though, it looks like you are trying to open tables that PFM doesn't have a schema for. Unfortunately, my life is currently too unpredictable to know when I might next be able to devote time to working on PFM seriously and I'm pretty sure I'm the last staff member still paying attention to the project. I can think of two approaches to solving your problem quickly.
  1. I wrote a tutorial a while back on decoding tables in pack files that can be read at http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?791996-A-tutorial-on-decoding-tables-for-PFM
  2. The solution I only recommend since we have a shortage of manpower: There's a student project that has become our primary community competitor that I think is still current with their schemas called RPFM.

Nope i'm modding Rome 2. I gave up and restarted those files. They seem to be working so far.

Ok, I can confirm on my end that PFM is working for opening all of the vanilla tables for Rome 2. If you still had the broken pack files that might be interesting for me to look at to see how and why they broke. Hopefully everything works fine for you this time.

All but one old file. But it still works and there is no need to edit it. I just think files get corrupted when the application is updated.

That error happens when PFM doesn't have a schema to tell it how to interpret a given table. Before I joined the team, old table schemas would occasionally get deleted by accident by one of our scripts (typically when they shared a version number with another version of the same table). If you send me that old file I can re-create the old schema version and make sure it gets re-added in the next schema update.

Not sure how to send you the file. Truth be told i'm having more issues with the program freezing or crashing. It crashes when i click. It freezes when i filter large tables. The building units allow table is pure misery to filter out and edit. Same with the garrison tables.

For the file, the email I use for this project is genreless@users.sourceforge.net.

As for the crashes, I spent some time looking through our issue tracker and my list of bugs that were found but without sufficient information to reproduce. There are definitely some optimizations that need to be done to make PFM more stable and faster, but the only crash bug I found that sounded like what you're talking about was a crash when changing filters on edited tables (though that bug isn't in the tracker because I couldn't figure out which filters were meant in the original report when I went back to verify the problem). If there's anything you do that consistently causes crashes I would appreciate you describing the steps so I can note them in our issue tracker to be fixed when we have staff with time they can dedicate to doing so.

I'll send you that file in a bit. As for the software it does not crash constantly. It mainly crashes when i want to alter something on a table on occasion. I click on something like unit attack or the variant of a unit. It does not matter what i click it just crashes on occasion when i click on something to edit it. It gives me a long error code when it happens. Too long to tell you what it is. It just happens here and there.

When i filter large tables like building units allowed or unit permissions the software also crashes. It remains frozen for a minute or two and then it just closes without error. The task completely cancels.

I'll send you the file when i'm not busy. Give me a few hours and i'll post it here. I think i might use a the site mega file. Problem is i'm unsure how to make zip files with the app called 7zip. I've tried before and it didn't seem to work right.

hmm should i just send you the pack file so you can take a look at what files work and what files don't?

Sure, I can try poking around at the pack file to check which tables work and see if I can reproduce any of your crashes.

This is the link to the file. I've managed to somehow get some tables to work. The table that won't show up is a special units abilities table section. I can't get it to show up. Everything else works.

I just had the crash again while trying to edit a custom battle permission. I thought i could help you know the problem by using the windows snip tool. I have a picture of the error posted below.

Edit: I don't know why the image links work but the ones for mega files don't. Steam is strange.
