Hello,

The topic of this thread is the project that I've been working on for the past several months with a few talented people. We called it "Rust Balance Overhaul" and later on "Rust Reborn" for short. It is a compilation of plugins, both custom-made and third party - tuning almost every knob an Oxide developer has available. (And even some that aren't - we had to mod Oxide itself to make some of our modifications possible)

It contains over a hundred adjustments to the core game - all thoroughly sprinkled with love for the Rust we all remember; The changes, however, are not nostalgia-driven.

So what does this Overhaul do?
Here's a quick list of the more important categories of adjustments we made with bright examples of the changes themselves:

Introduced an Era-based progression system, that tweaks the rarity of loot over time, along with some other things - deterring people from rushing endgame guns on day one. The server's parameters dynamically change as time goes by, allowing for gameplay to unfold over the course of a full wipe, instead of only two-three days. Airdrops are delayed until the second Era, for example.

Adjusted weapons to be more balanced, favoring skill and smooth gameplay above all. The changes mainly include adjustments to core damage, headshot damage, and ammo count. Semi-Auto Rifle now stores 10 rounds to reduce it's spammability, and has had both it's base and critical damage increased to make it more of a sniper.

Adjusted armor to allow for more linear progression, and make all tiers of armor relevant in the meta. Heavy Suit now tanks a lot more damage, making it incredibly viable for home defense, with ~ sigh ~ yes, a shotgun.

Reworked the loot system, allowing for complete items to be found in crates, barrels and all sorts of other containers. Drop count of components has been adjusted accordingly, to make sure that you don't end up having to grind too much. A standard RPG rarity system has been introduced to military crates, to make looting much more exciting. Minecarts drop mining-related items, but much more varied than just candlehats and pickaxes.

Reworked player metabolism to make use of many features of the game that have gone mostly ignored since they were added - changes were made to hunger, radiation, bleeding, and some adjustments things that most seasoned Rust players have completely forgotten. You can now hold your breath underwater for a minute

Made changes to several raiding mechanics to make raiding more skillful again. C4 can now easily counter wallstacked and overly honeycombed buildings, which became stronger again due to slight changes to the way twigs and ladders now work.

Gathering adjusted to be less of an unbearable time waster in subtle ways. Rocks gather 15 wood per hit.

Reworked events to be much more reasonable to all parties who'd like to compete. Helicopter drops 8 crates (loot adjusted accordingly) in a large radius, allowing it to be contested and/or stolen. Some crates have a chance to spawn without fire.

Added PvP-specific balance changes, from combating medspam to fully reworked F1 Grenades. Syringes now drain your hunger and water, but heal much faster and more overall. Best of both worlds!

Is that all?
Absolutely not. We've only mentioned the examples for more important stuff. Moreover, the modpack is being tweaked every day - we pay heed to feedback of our players, with additional balance changes and tweaks being added every day.
