Well, it'll all depend if they're up for playing along that way. I suppose in some situations people might prefer to spend a night in the cells than be killed and lose their stuff.

We have no doubt that plenty of people will refuse to play along, so it's a bit of an experiment to see whether it's worth doing. Seemed a shame not to at least try it with the new jail bars coming in :-)

Keen-eyed denizens of Nomads Island will be aware that it is now possible for prison cells to be created.

NIPD will be imprisoning criminals for crimes. Convicts will be given back their posessions upon release from prison. Bad behaviour or escape attempts will result in increased time.

The first NIPD prison will be built after the next wipe.

NIPD will not tolerate xenophobic attitudes. Everyone is either awesome or rubbish depending on their behaviour, not their nationality. EREZ has just earned one NIPD death token.

In order to fulfill our responsibilities on Nomad Island, the Nomad Island Police Department are currently seeking new members.

Becoming a full NIPD officer will require a trial period to establish that you have the integrity and trustworthiness required to officiate in server activities such as the heli events. We do not accept dicks.

We exist as a buffer between the admins and players. In this way, we are able to play Rust and also be given trust when it matters. As such, no admins will become NIPD officers. Admins have not so far influenced the acitivities of the NIPD.

The NIPD will not accept people who already have an allegiance to a clan or other such group. Successful applicants will be loyal to law and order and nothing else.

As an NIPD officer, you will be expected to uphold decency on the server. You will not be prohibited from raiding or otherwise having fun, but you will be expected to act fairly, justly, and with firm adherence to the server rule "don't be a dick".

No, please don't change the map. Nomad Island should stay the same despite wipes IMHO.

After a valiant and fun battle, the helicopter bottled it and vanished on us. Before that, though, there was action galore.

ATTENTION CITIZENS. NIPD ANNOUNCEMENT.

At a closed press conference today, an NIPD spokesperson delivered a statement about the execution and subsequent banning of an unnamed dissident codenamed "Nevermore".

Speaking at a secret, beautiful, brutal, comfortable, horrific, pleasant and deniable facility near the Airfield, the spokesperson told reporters that, "The NIPD are pleased to have been instrumental in the removal of this foul influence from the populace. After being banned, the criminal, who is no better than porcelain backspatter, sent a Steam message to an NIPD officer saying, 'I am relieved to have been dealt justice at the hands of the NIPD. I confess to all of my crimes. I am a bad idiot. Long live the NIPD.'. The outcast then dissipated into a cloud of racist tears that smelled of poor upbringing and the matted hair around the back passage of a sick and elderly abandoned cow."

Nomad Island citizens have been vocal in their celebration of the NIPD as a result of this justified and well-executed police operation. Many have placed signs around the island giving thanks for the help of the NIPD in making their lives safer and more productive. Sources believe that average private-part size on Nomad Island has increased by 8.6% as a direct result of the NIPD's benevolent protection.

The NIPD spokesperson continued, "Citizens with information on crime are encouraged to denounce the guilty or possibly guilty in the interests of Nomad Island's order and security. Is a person who fails to report crime in league with the helicopter? Yes. Both cause innocent deaths in our beloved homeland. Both are unwelcome. Both will hurt you when you least expect it. The NIPD are like an airdrop that lands on your base's roof. Both are welcome, both provide help, both improve your chances of survival, and both are rectangular crates covered in plastic. Not the last one. But you know what I mean."

There was great applause from the assembled news media representatives, some of whom were later released.

Meanwhile, a recent poll showed that citizens of Nomad Island are in agreement that we are safer under the watchful eyes of the NIPD.

Spontaneous demonstrations of approval and thanks for the protection of the Nomad Island Police Department have filled the air with joy recently.

An NIPD spokesperson said "The NIPD would like to thank the island's population for their continued unanimous support and co-operation, and renew our vow to ensure that under our benevolent protection, proper order and control are maintained. Those with nothing to hide will have nothing to fear."
