Broken ~ Suck, since we're actually counting the two bonus covers. Excluding them, I don't really have one.
The Downward Spiral ~ I Do Not Want This. Don't really have much love for Closer either, but there's just too much cringe in "DON'T YOU TELL ME HOW I FEEL!". Sounds like something an angry child would screech at their parents.
The Fragile ~ Toss-up between Pilgrimage and Please.
Still ~ The Becoming. Excludiong the stripped down versions of past songs, none. The original material of the album is perfect.
[WITH_TEETH] ~ The Collector. Hate the instumentation and vocal delivery.
Year Zero ~ I don't have one, it's absolutely perfect. And even with that said, I still rank The Fragile above this album.
Ghosts I-IV ~ 08 Ghosts I.
The Slip ~ Don't really have one. It's not perfect, but I still enjoy every song on the album.
Hesitation Marks ~ All Time Low.
As for the comments about Hesitation Marks, outside of a few tracks, I REALLY didn't think much of the album myself. I believe I felt this way for two reasons.
1. Reznor more or less stated that he drew inspiration for Hesitation Marks from The Downward Spiral era. With the exceptions of having 14 tracks, a Closer-"like" song, and the aesthetic of the album art, (which I feel is the biggest misdirect of all), it's nothing like TDS. Not in tone or instumentation, not in lyrics or vocal delivery. I'm not gonna lie, at the time I felt like it was the kind of bait and switch Brian Warner has been pulling since Eat Me, Drink Me.
2. Year Zero was supposed to be a double album. I fucking love YZ, and I've been waiting forever for the second part and the mini series. I'm completely guessing here, but I think when Obama got elected, Reznor didn't think YZ style material was nessasary any more. If that was the case, well, he couldn't have been more wrong. Obama turned out to be George Dub-uh-yuh 2.0. At the utter least, the man has taken the Bush administration's "If you have nothing to hide, than you have nothing to fear" policies and gone full Orwellian with them. We needed Year Zero 2 then as much as we needed YZ back in 2007, perhaps even more so, instead we got Hesitation Marks. Oh well, at least it has Satellite on it.
All that said, the album has since grown on me, and I do like it now.
I mean, that was kinda the whole point? We were the angry children who shopped at Hot Topic and wore combat boots to school, then got put on anti-depressants after we showed our bad poetry to our English teachers. OK, maybe that last part only happened to me . . .
NIN stopped beeing NIN since "with teeth"
or lets say it in other works: NIN is only NIN if Trent uses drugs ^^
