On a technical side making iso art needs a good template, found a tutorial to save retyping:

wondering if you could help me with this. i wanted this game's style to resemble something like fallout 1. could i do that with pixels?

A lot of Fallout 1 is pixel art, mixed in with prerendered 3D parts. If it was me I would make a lot of the scenery in 3D and render it into isometric, but I guess a good artist could get that style working in 2D pixel art.

Also depends what you mean by "pixel art". If you mean really retro limited pallete and chunky pixels it is worth looking at Fallout's ancestor Wasteland:

One of my favorites is Syndicate - Detailed iso pixel art

Although the more "beaten up, post-apocalyptic" you get the more work you have to making things look decayed (and not too repetitive).

I guess do some more research into iso games with a style you like and see if you can narrow down what you are aiming at, then give the iso screens and a pile of normal photo reference to you artist and see what they can cook up for a demo level of the game.

I will pin this thread for a while, because it's very helpful :)
Thank you again so much Aartform Games for helping people!

would you recommend Game Maker for a isometric adventure game?

I don't know about Game Maker (I have too much fun coding engines from scratch!)
