It's not dead. The dev even plays it with the community. Make sure you get the announcements and follow the forum to know when they are playing.

The only reason I said that is every one says this is a dead game, and I've spent almost two hours of jumping on and trying to see if people are in servers.

I did the same thing until I realized that there is a hand ful of people who are always announcing in this group when they are about to play. You just need to subscribe to the announcements so you get a pop-up everytime someones makes an announcement.
Make sure the game is up to date and as soon as someone plays, you'll know and only have to launch the game. :)
