Incremental-games : a new genre of gaming

What is an incremental-game?

The group has been launched few days ago, and we are reaching 100 members! Glad to see it!

Many of you requested "what is an incremental-game?"


Incremental-games are games that are playable on your browser and sometimes smartphone (iOS & Android). They are mainly free-to-play. Theses type of games introduce a feature that is incremental mechanism. This incremental mechanism is defined by unlocking powerful upgrades, buildings or discovering new ways to play the game.
This genre of gaming is still new but got an exponential growing this last year!


Incremental : this gameplay involve numbers that go up, up and up to a ridiculous number (like sexquadragintillion or if you prefer scientific notation 10E141)! Many of incremental-game use this style of gameplay, and you mainly gain this currency with builds, that earn a certain amount of currency per second or by clicking a button (for example by clicking the cookie in Cookie Clicker).

Idle : Idling in incremental-game is a very important factor! This idea is generally coupled with the incremental gameplay. This gameplay require the player to wait a certain amount of time before he can afford to buy better upgrades/builds to be even further in the game!

Automation : this gameplay ties with the above mechanics. Indeed, it allows the player to generate currency, buildings or anything you want WITHOUT interacting with the game.


Adventure Capitalist (Unity):[www.kongregate.com] a typical incremental-game (and one of the most famous!) where you need to idle and increment your number of $$$ and angels! One of the best of it's genre!

Cookie Clicker :[orteil.dashnet.org] is the first very famous incremental-game, made by Orteil, a french-young developer. Cookie Clicker got an incremental, idle and automation gameplay.

Time Clickers (Unity):[www.timeclickers.com] a fresh new incremental-game that was released some weeks ago. Pretty funny, need player interaction (not fully automatic at certain points) but got some idle and incremental gameplay! I recommend it!

Rebuild the Universe :[rebuildtheuniverse.com] is another exciting game, which addresses especially idling and automation gameplay. Warning : it can be laggy on old computers!
