No more sound while using remote play?
Hello everyone,

I've been using the Steam remote play thing to launch a game (PC Building Simulator mainly) on my gaming pc (that is in my room upstairs) to play said game on my laptop (in the living room, downstairs).

Yesterday, everything worked fine, I could play the game with sound.
Today, I can launch the game, but no more sound on my laptop.

I went back to my gaming pc to check, if I launch the game there, there is sound.

I restarted both computers, closed and re opened steam several times, yet nothing seems to work.

Before trying to launch the game today, I did not change anything in the Steam settings or anything on any of the pcs...

Any idea why that would occure and how to fix it?

Thanks a lot

I just solved it, I was in the Steam beta - Once I left the steam beta (Steam -> Settings -> Interface) and restarted steam to "roll back" it resolved the issue. I will post this over to the Beta discussion. Hope it sorts it for you both!

I have the same problem. It seems the host PC no longer sends audio to the streaming device, tried both to another PC and my phone with no results.

Checked the Steam Streaming Speakers were enabled, and that they were the output device while trying to stream. Reinstalled the speakers for good measure.

Same problem here, audio streaming not working to my Steam Link and to my Android TV.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I have the same issue. I created bug report on Steam Beta discussion. Hopefully somewhere we get some response...

Thanks a bunch ! It worked for me too. Now, hope they find a way to fix this so we can beta again
It got even weirder for me. I had no sound whatsoever using my steamlink. Only the sound of the steamlink itself. I then did some research and they said to set "play sound on host" to active. I did that, then I had sound of the big picture and everything, but when I started a game, no sound was heard at all. neither on my TV, nor on the host computer. BUT if I started a game BEFORE starting the stream via steamlink, then connected the steamlink and jumped back into the running game, I had sound. Super strange.

check windows auido control panel
disable all unused audio devices

also check if steam streaming speakers are there, and set the correct speaker count
and test while streaming

and check windows mixer volumes, make sure steam clinet/bootstrapper volume is maxed
Thanks for your answer!
Unfortunately, nothing of the above seems to be the issue. The volume is maxed in the mixer, the correct speaker count is configured...opting out of the beta did the trick for now, but I'm afraid when the update hits the main branch it will be broken again...
It's really sad, I use my steamlink on a daily basis, but this audio issue, coupled with the issue that after a few minutes, artifacting happens and streaming quality plummets, until I restart the stream (and I'm on gbit lan cable ffs), really makes it unusable as of now...

the beta has a different appid
again check windows mixer volume for steam clinet/bootstrapper

I was finally able to solve it, it's because I was in STEAM FAMILYS BETA with my friends, I had to go to (Steam -> Settings -> Interface) then choose not to participate in any beta and with that I can play again with my friends and with him restored audio.

Let's hope Steam can fix it soon for the family beta

Thanks to nistal for the solution
