First of all, you are not alone with your thoughts and there are many others in your age out there ;)
Unfortunately there are not many remakes out there you are looking for, but MANY wannabes and only some good new ones.
Depending on what was your latest 'new' CRPG you have played I would go back in time to Wizardry 8 which really cought me when it came out back in the days.
Regarding remakes I only remember these at the moment:
The Dark Eye (1 and 2)
Bards Tale (1-3)
Wasteland
Regarding new ones you can look for these:
Legend of Grimrock (1 and 2)
Bards Tale 4
Operencia the Stolen Sun
Legends of Amberland
The Quest
Vaporum + Vaporum Lockdown
Nox Archaist
Might and Magic X
And this one is a bit different but worth mentioning:
Caves of Lore
Please note that these are just some personal recommendations.
I hope you will find one matching your taste.
Cheers!
Gold Box with Lands of Lore artstyle would be amazing.
Will have to check some of the others out too (although Operencia and Amberland didn't grab me when I checked them out previously).
@UncleYar, yeah I get what you're saying about the gold box graphics (but again, much better on the old Amiga versions - that machine was so far ahead of its time). Sadly I don't see the current rights holders (assuming it is WotC) going down the remaster road, as its the dreadful 5th Edition or bust apparently.
