Report a translation problem
First, DIG two STAIRS DOWN.
Also DIG a 5x5 or bigger hole in front of the stairs.
Directly infront of the stairs you dug down, make another set.
Now, DON'T DIG. That was the problem I was having for the longest time. You need to mine! Mine a small room, yet again infront of the stairs.
Continue to repeat this process until you reach two layers under stone, which is when I started mining (successfully) for ore.
I know this probably won't help anyone, especially in a group like this, but the mining system almost made me quit the game before I even knew how great it was.
