Grand Duchy of Tuscany

The Grand Duchy of Tuscany, was born in the early 16th century, Cosimo I de Medici. It disappears in 1801, when Napoleon Bonaparte, transforms it into Kingdom of Etruria.


The Kingdom of Etruria was created by the Treaty of Aranjuez of March 21, 1801 between the France and the Spain, for Louis I of Parma and its progeny, with clause of reversion to the Royal family of Spain. The Etruria is transferred to the France Treaty secret Fontainebleau on October 27, 1807, integrated in the French Empire with Parma and Piacenza, by Decree of 24 may 1808. On 2 March 1809, the "General Government of the departments forming the Tuscany" is high the great dignity of the Empire, and it is assigned the next day to Elisa Bonaparte. This was not strictly speaking a Grand Duchy sovereign since Tuscany was part of the French Empire, but an honorific title.
