Co-op in Penumbra, Amnesia ect
I would like to say I am new to this group and since there wasn't any discussions happening, I thought I would start one. This question has been asked many times but: What if there was co-op in Penumbra or Amnesia? Must people who see this question instantly jump to the conclusion that co-op ruins and destroys the games scariness and reputation but I strongly dissagree. First of, I can see where people are coming from because games like Resident Evil lost all of it's scariness because of co-op simply because it became a shooter! The main thing that completely ruins a horror games scariness has to be: Weapons. We have seen so many scary games go down hill because of weapons being a main factor of the game. Amnesia done a perfect job of not using weapons through the game and Penumbra done a amazing job of using weapons but making them pretty much useless. As long as weapons arn't put into Amnesia it should still maintain it's scariness all the way but I think games can maintain it's scariness and have a fun co-op experience. Don't get me wrong though, not every game can balance the two, so some should just keep to the single player experience. In my mind, I think implementing co-op into Penumbra or Amnesia can be a game breaker or sky rocket the games buys into space! In my opinion, it's all about the creators of the game. If they just sit down and think about what makes asingle player game scary and put that into co-op, of course expand it since it's 2 players they need to make it double as scary as it was in single player. In my mind, there are 5 main things that make a game scary. (No particular order) 1) Movement 2) First or third person view 3) Communication 4) Inventory/pause system 5) Atmosphere. I think if they perfect these 5 things, all the rest will follow. Please give me your thoughts if you think games like Penumbra and Amnesia can maintain it's scariness while having co-op. Thank you for reading! (Don't be to harsh on me, it's my first disscussion) Good day! :)

I don't know, the reason these ARE scary is because you are helpless and have no one to turn to. So I think the Co-op would just ruin it.

Although i feel that could be a totally fun idea, Mr.Tophatz is right in saying that just the fact that you are not alone while playing such a game (and this isn't just limited to any Penumbra/Amnesia game) would ruin it because the game itself revolves around being helpless and alone. I don't necessarily think it would totally drive out the scare factor, thought, but it would definately stiffle the basis of the game. Think of it like trying to have two quarterbacks playing at one time during a game. It just doesn't seem to fit.
