Hello folks. Quite a few of you rightly complained that this curator was recommending games tagged by it. Up until today it was impossible to batch change all the games to "informational", but now Valve has updated the curation tools to allow for that. All curated entries are now informational, which means they will no longer affect your recommended or pop up on your frontpage.

We haven't added too many games to this curator lately but we are still very much active. You can help make this list more complete by reporting games in the stickied thread on the community forum. Please remember that you must provide evidence of the 30fps lock, some sort of source beyond just a screenshot (Such as a forum post, pcgamingwiki entry or something along those lines). We only list games locked at 30fps (or below), not for any other reason.

Thanks for helping build this curator over the years, now it should no longer annoy you with random crap on your front page.

I've read a great deal of feedback and criticism of the initiative over the last few days. The majority of it is easily dismissed as hyperbole, misguided or just flat out incorrect, but there was one thing that got me thinking.

So we set up this group to be purely objective. Briefly at the beginning I listed a few games with which I said "look I think this is ok at 30fps because of the genre" but I quickly realised this was worthless information because everyones tolerance of framerate is going to be different, so I switched to providing purely objective information. However, some people correctly stated that some games are affected more by a 30fps lock than others, which is true, but how can we communicate that while simultaneously remaining objective? The answer I think is to include genre information in the recommendations. This remains purely objective but it also allows customers to better gauge how a 30fps lock will affect them.

An example. Toukiden Kowami is a 3rd person action game, the 30fps lock is very noticeable and absolutely has a negative impact on the gameplay. Guild of Dungeoneering is a card game which is purely mouse-driven. The 30fps lock has a much smaller impact on the gameplay as a result. By listing genres on the recommendations, we allow customers to judge for themselves whether or not a game is worth trying regardless of its framerate lock, based on their own personal preferences. Are you the sort of person that only cares when it's a first person shooter? No problem, the recommendation will tell you what the genre is. Are you the sort of person that will not buy a 30fps game under any circumstances? Well the genre information is there if you want to see it but it doesn't affect your ability to avoid 30fps games at all.

This additional infomation serves to empower the customer to make good decisions and judge for themselves whether or not they want to make a purchase, based on how much 30fps bothers them in types of games. It also I would hope goes some way to further reinforcing the idea that this is not a blacklist, nor is it a shamelist, it is an objective piece of information to help Steam users make better decisions.

There was a reason when I started this group that I decided to keep it purely objective. Initially, I went for a more aggressive approach and also inserted personal opinions into listings, but within minutes of starting this thing up I quickly realised that was a bad idea. Any sort of aggression or negativity would be amplified 10-fold by the internet and result in people crusading and witchhunting, so I made sure it was a purely objective list. No opinions, I even modified the tagline and mission statement to make sure people understood that this is a service for you guys and nothing more than that, it's designed to give you information.

However. Earlier today some people took it upon themselves to go after a developer who had removed our curator from their Steam page. Yes they can do that, for some reason people think they can't but there was an update last year in October that let you remove certain curators from your Store page. HOWEVER, those curators still show up if the user is following them, so for all of you, this literally makes no difference. The developer has since reinstated the curator, but I am absolutely not ok with people using this as an excuse to threaten, dogpile and witch-hunt developers. This is for your information only, it's not some kind of campaign to demand 60fps on all games, it's to help you make smart purchases. I don't endorse any behavior that involves threatening or harassing developers. If you want to criticise a games framerate, keep it civil, be calm and state your argument. Give adult, reasonable feedback.

Developers have the right to curate which curators show up on their page. In the case of this developer, we were probably the biggest curator for their game and because Steams system is just badly designed, we would have showed up as the main quote 100% of the time on the store page. That's a really bad system and I've repeatedly asked Valve to modify it but they haven't updated Steam curation since October of last year.

Anyone I see involved in that behavior on the Steam forums will be banned from the group permanently. Don't do it. Don't change a positive project into some weapon for online indignation.
