Thank you for the work you've done, by the way.
These forums seem to have become a protected troll habitat of the worst kind. We won´t change this anymore, it seems. Still i´m glad, i found messages from guys like you, to help me to solve my issues with the client and/or find reasonable workarounds.
Please don´t give up, as official support is of very little support in many cases, your great help and support will be needed over and over again.
We just should give up trying to be heard too much, as there is too much "resistance", trying to tone us down or shut us down completely. We should stay under the radar, try to solve our issues, if some may happen. But it´s maybe saver to do it without criticizing things, which triggers them troll-guards ...
All THEY wanna achieve is to get us banned over and over again, till we get a unlimited ban. We should not offer THEM this "present".
Go ahead and continue reading those boards, but when you see a cry for help, message them privately instead of in the forum. It sucks that this limits who can be helped, but word gets around. Just tell the people you help "if this works for you, share the information with others, but be careful to do so privately so you won't get banned or suspended".
Personally, I'm still struggling to get the classic UI working again (and even have a new laptop). I'm at the point where I'm willing to have someone send me their working copy to see if it starts running if I don't actually install it. But know that despite this, I've appreciated all of the help and still consider your tools to be essential to a good gaming experience. I pass both the tools and advice on whenever the oppourtunity arises on other platforms.
I agree 100% with everything you have said.
There is a well know posse of individuals who act as a sort of forum vigilantes abusing the system. This has worsened when Valve hired paid moderators who doesn't seem to know how forum and communities works and act without looking at the context.
I don't know why I bother sometimes.
Anyway, have you turned off the shader pre-caching ? This kind of updates are usually shader download for the games (it's turned on by default).
What I can't seem to understand is why are abandoned games from over a decade updating.
