FFVI: Original Sprites Project

This was in fact the issue, oddly enough. Though, it's a bit cumbersome to keep switching from 2k to 1080p. Granted, this is a very individual issue and not one that I expect to be catered to in any way, as I'm not sure this game was meant to be played in anything higher than 1080p. Still, I'd be curious as to what my options are, if there were any. It's strange to me that those pixel columns only appear when I'm in 2k (fullscreen, mind you) Windowed is 100% fine, and I even tried a workaround by using Borderless Gaming to force the pixel columns away altogether, but ended up destroying the alignment of the screen positioning altogether haha.

Again, it's not a critical issue, everything else works great, and is definitely just my problem and not a larger problem - just curious if there would be a solution to any of it? If not, no worries!

Since you're using such a high resolution, I'd suggest raising the scanline resolution too. In your FFVI directory, open your ReShade subfolder, then open SweetFX.cfg with a text editor, such as NotePad, WordPad etc. Search for Advanced_Crt, and under #define CRTResolution , change the value 1.20 (or 1.25, depending on whether you use the AWR or NOS ReShade) to something higher. I use a value of 2.4 myself, since I don't like scanlines or an overly distorted font.

I'm using the NOS music pack now, and I just had the battle music issue again. Now I'm positive it's not the mod. Just in case I have to have a clean reinstall to fix this, where exactly are the saves for this game? I know FF VIII's were in the My Documents folder somewhere, but that doesn't seem to be the case with VI.

The saves are located in <Your Steam directory>\userdata\YourSteamID\382900 , and the default Steam directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\ . It's a good idea to keep multiple save slots and backup your saves every now and then, since the game supposedly has occasional save corruption issues.

I made it washed out because its a story about hopelessness and its a dark gritty story.. I alwasy thought the bright snes color pals were out of place because when you look at the artwork, its all washed out and devoid of color.. I can't wait though to get someone to hack the tilesets so we can manually change all the colors of the tiles and make them look better :) Till then the reshade will have to do..

The gritty, artistic style of the graphics is fine. What I was wondering, why do some NPCs have weird eye colors, such as the NPCs of Albrook having yellow eyes: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/ugc/2480809100918676706/204A106DE209A0BE7E83C499CE72756ED33729FA/ The eyes are barely visible there, so the NPC looks like a zombie. :D

I'm looking for people to try out this ReShade file down below, its the CRT filter without any color alterations. I'd like to get people from the community's opinion on it and if they like it, I'll probably end up adding it to the manual install files.

Drop this file INSIDE of the ReShade folder in your Final Fantasy VI directory and replace. Be sure that you have a backup of the previous file elsewhere if you'd like to restore the color alterations after testing.

Again, this ReShade modification only changes the colors back to normal, you still get the CRT filter and the 16:9/4:3 TAB button swap. To any and all interested, please let me know what you think :)

It looks like these ReShade settings are based on the NOS branch, with high Vibrance. The effect is pretty good, quite similar to what I came up with my own customized ReShade settings yesterday. The biggest difference was that my custom edit was based on the AWR branch, and I wanted to keep Technicolor on (albeit toned down), to preserve some of the dark, artistic style.

I'd love to see you all post some gameplay footage. I'm really fascinated and curious to see how people are choosing to experience the mod in action! :)

Unfortunately, Bandicam doesn't capture the ReShade effects, so the videos would look quite bland. I'll have to try with Nvidia's Shadowplay later.

Hey, I've encountered this problem a couple of times myself during testing. In my experience, it only happened after installing the large installers on top of each other and sometimes continuing to install patches on top of them that it happened for me. I'm not 100% sure why this happens, but the only way to fix this error right now is to revalidate your game files and reinstall your mods. The defilter will also need to be reinstalled but your ReShade will be fine. I just reuploaded the Manual Installers with the automated Main Party Packs, so it should make reinstallation quicker for you. I'm going to try to get to the bottom of this!

EDIT: Okay, I just tried it again and I see what you mean. I'm going to look into these two patches now.

Yeah, I'm keeping backup copies of main.obb in another folder just in case something goes wrong. I have a backup of the vanilla main.obb, and also a backup of the obb file after applying all 14 character patches since I don't want run those 14 patches again. :'D Replacing the failed main.obb file with a backup is faster than revalidating the game, and it also saves me the trouble of having to add the Defilter patch again. For testing purposes, I tried to apply the NOS NPC pack on a vanilla (unedited) main.obb. The NPC pack was successfully installed, but every patch after that one failed.

A question about the manual mod: how do you add the FFVI AWR logo on the title screen?

I've been playing some more with the AWR branch, and I'm slowly warming up more to the darker tone and more artistic sprites.

Also, I'm going to incorporate your idea in the Manual Installers to fast track sprites for each set, which should be live sometime this afternoon! :)

Glad to hear you're updating the mod on a regular basis! I'm currently trying to play around with the manual installer to see what it can do. Unfortunately, I ran into a bug with NOS - NPC Pack. If I install it, the installation proceeds normally, without errors, but it seems to corrupt the main.obb somehow. As a result, every exe patch that I apply after that will just quit early during the patching process, without giving any error messages. The same happens with the AWR - NPC Pack.

There are 12 track differences between the OSTs, mainly character themes but also the boss battle theme and the Opera house fight theme. For the Nostalgia OST, I did not replace the track with a 1:1 cover, and opted to use an orchestrated medley of battle themes from FFIII-FFXV. Creatively, and in the spirit of Final Fantasy nostalgia, I couldn't resist to take the opportunity to have the band break out in an epic medley of the Final Fantasy battle themes.

I listened to both AWR and NOS versions more carefully, and the boss theme is definitely better in the AWR version. I also prefer the AWR fanfare slightly. For Terra's theme (Awakening), I thought both versions were great, but the AWR arrangement was more impressive to me. It took longer to get started, but I thought it was more somber and emotional (whereas the NOS version was more heroic), fitting the scenes where it plays better. Based on these, I think I'll go with the AWR arrangements.
