Sadly you read wrong or the post that you read was misinformed. Thanks to Nyxo's work the game is almost fully moddable.

The only reason why sprites haven't been replaced yet is due to how tedious it is.

Please go through the forum threads to see other active projects.

@sylardean all of the mods you see in this community are already using that exact tool in order to create the mods.

You can call it whatever you want, but not dead :). Ran into some health issues and once I get them under control, I'll have more time to dedicate.

If you would like it to be less dead, you could always contribute. Otherwise, patience is a virtue.

Edit: I'm just as excited to play it as everyone else here. However, if it wasn't for Kafziel this project probably would have died. Thanks to his dedication, it flourished even while I was absent.

Sadly, it's due to steam's rediculous link censorship. I'll avoid the filter so that all you'll have to do is copy, paste, and remove a few characters.

Marshe, the main post has a link showing what is done, and what is in progress. If you want to give a hand, you're more than able to. This thread also has a howto on how to contribute, or click on the guide from the list.

I'd need to look closer at the sheets for FF6, but I think the battle sprites are the same as the overworld sprites, meaning I'd need to do front-facing and back-facing sprites in addition to profile (essentially 2.5 times the work) for all the mains and NPCs in order for it to look consistent. And there are a lot of unique NPCs in FF6.

After I finish with the battle sprites and put out a solid release, I plan to work on an overworld patch for FF5. By that point I'm hoping someone else will have started working on FF6. There seemed like some good activity on the FF6 board, so I'm hoping that continues.

Well, when the time comes, if you ever need help with FF6, let me or Kafziel know. Sadly it's a lot more complex than FF5, since it doesn't use PNGs, but instead BMPs in Indexed Mode. Eitherway, it's easy once you have a gameplan. I listed the steps on the FF6 Original Sprites thread, if anyone is interested.
