I didn't blame you at any moment for your workshop idea, because it is an IDEA and ideas are made to be shared with people so they can give their own opinion, which I did in all my previous posts.

I'm new in FF modding so I have only read some of the recents threads and pinneds ones.
Yup you went off the handle. No worries, I'm here to share ideas and opinions, not to argue.
But it's kinda hard to tell one from another on the internet, I give you that.
For some reason people on the internet are often looking for conflict and very touchy ._.

Most of the time when a game allows you to rename something it is not in a pratical or gameplay perspective. Just aesthetic.
I love to customize names and I find it cool to rename schematas, because you see their name during each combat.

So Cheat Engine can modify text, not only numbers, i didn't know that. Then my request is pointless ^^

But if your only problem is about backup time because of compression, automating the process will not make your pc do it faster.

I'm only speaking for XIII-2, cuz I havent modded any other FF game : I sincerely don't know how you can easily screw mod installations with this game. Except if you are not confortable at all with file paths, copy paste and things like that. (but the readme is really simple to understand)

I tweaked Skyrim for around 800 hours, which is, as you said, way harder than XIII-2, so maybe I can't see the problem for games easier to mod because I'm used to it ^^

I only modded XIII-2 and the order is just CCP then the rest, isn'it ? Not hard at all.

I don't know how the Workshop works, but I suppose that devs have to work on some kind of interface so the game installs a mod automatically when you subscribe to it.
Or maybe the Workshop is only copy pasting mods in a designated folder, like you would do by yourself if you had downloaded the mod on the internet.

As for XIII games, I think it is most likely becauses mods are not only copy pasting to ADD new files to existing official ones : We have to run some sort of patcher Krisan made. The patcher MODIFIES existing files. So if the workshop is only copy pasting files in your game folder, it would only had the "Mod" folder and the .bat file in your XIII game folder, thus not installing the mod automatically.

The reason is, IMO, copyright : Krisan probably can't upload the modified files of the game because they are still SE property. So he can't upload, like, packages of his mods including modified game files that the Workshop would copy paste in your game folder, replacing exiting files.

Would it be worth it to work on a mod allowing us to rename schematas, chocobos and map markers like in the console version ? Or is it an useless feature ? (I'm especially thinking about schematas and map markers)

Is it as "useless" as consoles buttons with colors but way harder to do ? (consoles buttons is only texture overwriting I guess)

Can you, like, "unlock" the feature like you did in XIII-2 for exclusive outfits ?

If not I suppose you would have to create some kind of patcher allowing us to replace schematas name by editing games files related to garbs. But this option is probably not worth it in term of time needed to do it...

The workshop needs dev support doesn't it ? I mean, I think it needs the devs to support modding and modify the game so it can install and use mods easily, with a dedicated "Mods" menu like in Space Engineers, with maybe some kind of exclusive format that the game can interprete and manage as a whole, as a package.
And I don't think SE cares about mods AT ALL.
Correct me if I am wrong.

Anyway, it's not hard to install mods in XIII or XIII-2, you just have to copy paste some files and run the .bat... Invest time in some modding platform is probably not worth it.

Skyrim is not a good exemple, the workshop is one of the worst ways to mod it ^^
(load order, mods management, conflict managment, mod updates... Mod Organizer ftw !)

I'm french but I use Steam and all my games in english. I have no freeze problem with these mods on the english version. The only freeze problem I had was when I tried an exe patcher supposed to improve framerate in XIII-2.
Didn't improve anything and made the game freeze before SE logo like 50% of the time, forcing me to reboot the computer (no response at all, even with alt tab or ctrl alt del)

Agreed, it's really minor. I understand ! :) Modders don't have unlimited time and they are not paid for their amazing job. Mods are well perfect enough considering they are not done by "professionals". And even professionals have time limitations.
Actually mods are often as good or better than developpers' work ! (Looking at you Bethesda...)
