Buddhism is a philosophy that has dated back to the 4th century BC. Adopted by millions, the whole of it is about being moral and mindful in life, and overall obtaining wisdom. Quantum Physics (or Quantum Mechanics) is the science of (in a basic sense) how everything works. “Everything” being subatomic particles, the foundation of atoms (the things that make up everything). Two very different subjects, right? Perhaps not. There are many studies that suggest that Buddhism and Quantum Physics are somehow connected. Many highly regarded physicists, professors, and others claim to have theories. Additionally, core science and history show their own contributions.
Now, some might ask, “What does finding a purpose to life have to do with discovering and studying Quantum Mechanics.” Well the joke is that those two have more in common than you would ever expect. One example of such an instance is Substantialism: teaching that “substance is something that has independent existence,” “…something unchangeable, eternal and existing as itself.” “…the underlying basis for everything else, the non-material foundation of the world in which we live.” Interesting stuff, right? Perhaps a little difficult to understand, but nonetheless important. These beliefs and values of Substantialism are not so far from those of Buddhism. The view that all living things are connected and that we are all one is an important way of thinking. What if we looked at this on a molecular/atomic level? Quantum Mechanics state that atoms and particles and such are connected, and since they are a part of us, doesn’t that mean we are all connected?
