Emu Workshop

What is this group for?

This is a place for you to ask questions about skins and how to create them. I'll try to give a rough look into my workflow and equip you guys with links to help you create works of your own. I'll try and expand the collection of links as i go and maybe one day record a tutorial of my own but don't count on it ;)


What tools do I use?

3D Modeling
Blender, Z-Brush (Detailing)

Probably the most important thing to get you started. Here you can find explanations on the different weapon finishes and Models of every weapon in the game you can work on.

Baking light in Substance Painter

Shows you how you can bake down the textures you create in Substance Painter. Pretty damn useful. I tend to use those outputs as a Base for some last details in Photoshop.

Floating Geometry in conjunction with normal maps

This is a technique i use all the time to make highpoly models for baking in substance painter. It's a quick and useful way of generating details.

Hard Ops

Very good for fast hardsurface modelling in Blender. Definetely check it out!

Custom Blender Setup

This actually got me very comfortable with using blender after giving up on it several versions before. It consists of some very useful scripts and inputs which make working with blender a breeze!

Y.A.V.N.E. - Yet Another Vertex Normal Editor

Lets you fix wonky shading on relatively lowpoly models by setting custom face normals. Can be pretty useful!

it's actually just an illusion. I've used projection mapping and rendered the transparent material inside of blender beforehand. I hope that helps!

Hi, I´m a German student. I´m trying to achieve a similar effect like you did on the M4A4 Professional Clear on a Glock. I would be very grateful on some advice on how you made that effect so convicing.

Whilst I´m here is it possible to apply Glass shaders and have them transparent inside of the game or is it all an illusion?

Hey, actually I don't know yet. I'll try to make time for something new but this year is pretty busy because of personal matters, so i am kind of short on time right now. I'll definitely try to create new skins though :)
