Introduction

It is year 1444 anno domini - Europe is in turmoil. On the west, the Hundred Years War is ravaging the countries of France and England. In the East the Turkish Ottoman Empire is experiencing a rapid rise. Rumours of Ottoman weakness made Pope Eugene IV delcare a crusade against the Ottomans. That Crusade has ended drastically with the King of Poland, Lithuania and Hungary - Władysław III - has died during the Battle of Varna. To the west lies a continent undiscovered by the Europeans, where in the north tribes fight eachother and migrate, while to the south the Aztec and Inca empires start to rise. In Asia lay great hordes and countries - The Timurid horde in Persia is experiencing serious religious and cultural problems, In India various rajas are fighting for dominance over the Indian subcontinent. In China, the Ming dynasty is living according to the Mandate of Heaven - however rising Manchurian hordes to the North might disrupt Ming's existance. In Japan, daimyo are fighting to become shogun and dominate the ancient land of Nihon. In Africa the Ethiopian Empire is experiencing a golden age, while to the west the Mali empire is barely living.
