incorrect and you do not understand what PoW mining is, or the purpose. Some of the other tokens/coins may prove to be profitable in a speculative market/period like this.. sure.. but for the majority they are unlikely to acquire any store of value properties (and in turn the properties of money) in the short term... especially if they're using other consensus mechanisms that are not as secure or proven (pos for example)

and on the hacking question, though vulnerabilities can come up and be a wildcard.. in terms of hacking, the decentralization specifically is one of the reasons it's incredibly hard to attack in that manner. No central honeypot, to hack a large amount of funds they would have to hack each individual private key (impossible/near impossible through brute force currently, and still hard/time-consuming to do a single private key through social manipulation/scamming (though scams do happen)

Well, I'm no cryptography expert but I have spent a lot of time studying and keeping up with some of the innovations, so I know a lot about it on the surface layers / non-math technicals.. but yeah, I saw quite a few bitcoin questions on steam and as you say; they're all full of people who have absolutely zero knowledge about any of it.

I try to point them to andreas antonopoulos / jameson lopp etc, but I doubt they notice haha
