Resident Evil 2 Remake: Screen-tearing & Windows Taskbar
though it has borderless window mode, it adds black bars making it pretty much useless.

trying to use it on the fullscreen mode doesn't work: game changes the native resolution to 1920x1080 if I use that in-game (adding an offset shows desktop confirming it), or if I use 2560x1080 and use the app to force 1920x1080, it introduces screen tearing (in fact, 1920x1080 without the app has screen-tearing too, only at native resolution there is no screen tearing) but the taskbar problem doesn't happen

when I use it in conjunction with borderless window mode though, it both makes my auto-hide taskbar pop up as well as introducing screen-tearing that wasn't there before activating the app, thus making me need to move my taskbar and turn VSync on in nVidia Control Panel.

windowed mode also has this problem, even before using the app, so it might be a problem with the game itself (or maybe I'm missing something?) as well as being able to click out of the window even with mouse lock on (BWG or gamesettings or both) on the very edges of the screen.
However, saying that, the built-in borderless window mode doesn't have either problem, just the black bars, so it's definitely something fecky going on that might be worth looking into.

any help would be appreciated, especially if I missed a setting in Windows somewhere.

OS: Windows 10 LTSC 21H2
Driver: nVidia 526.47
GPU: RTX 3090
Game Mode is on, hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling is on, Variable refresh rate is on, FPS limited to 2 under refresh rate & tearing doesn't change going lower, Vsync to Fast helps but doesn't eliminate

set the resolution
WBG > Game settings > Your game > Resolution
That should fix your taskbar issue.

The screen tearing likely is an issue of the game. and their Borderless mode adds V-sync possibly, i don't know.
Maybe having the matching resolution set will fix that too, please let us know.

nah it still occurs, both with native resolution of 2560*1080 and with 1920*1080. I doubt VSync is being added in their borderless mode since there's an option in the graphics menu and I have it set to turn off. maybe they're utilising some weird property unbeknownst to us both in the Desktop Windows Manager, or their borderless windowed mode isn't using DWM at all but a special DirectX window and then using the app forces it to render inside of DWM but it's not setting the flag for always on top/above taskbar? might explain the screen tearing too if the now DWM window is ignoring the DirectX "render ahead" page-flip thing (similar to Triple Buffering in OpenGL except it can go from 0 to 8, not just 0 or 3, but Triple Buffering requires VSync to be on? TB drops freames, Render Ahead doesn't) and the Desktop Window Compositor thing is being a turd. idk mane I have no idea what's going on lol, but hopefully this information is relevant and can trigger a brain blast
