The most powerful, and modern battleship in the Republic's service, the Lyon-Class Battleship is the pride of the Marine Nationale. Equipped with massive 406mm guns, strong secondary batteries, and extremely capable armor, they're the centerpriece of the French Fleet, defending the Republic's borders against the foes of the Nation.
Each Battleship is 220 meters long, 36 meters wide, and posses a draught of 10 meters. Theyare equipped with two smokestacks, which are part of the propulsion system of the ship. The overall length to width ratio of the ship is 6.11, relatively wide but also decreasing the necessary length of the main armored belt.
The most powerful onboard weapons are the main guns. There are 12 of these, 16 inch, 406 mm battleship grade artillery pieces, designed to decimate enemy fleets at long range. They are positioned in three quad turrets, with two forward of the superstructure and one to the rear. The guns have a muzzle velocity of 850 meters per second, and a rate of fire of two rounds per minutes.
The secondary battery is composed of 130mm guns. There are 32 of these, positioned in twin turrets, with 16 turrets alongside the side of main superstructure(8 per side). They are designed to be utilized against enemy ships, or aircraft, being the first guns in French service designed to serve as a dual purpose weapons battery.
A tertiary battery of 48 13.2mm anti-air guns, and 24 37mm anti-air guns was included as well. These are designed to take down enemy aircraft.
Protection is provided by an armored belt, armored turrets, armored barbettes, and an armored deck. The armored belt is 330mm thick, while the upper maindecks are 130mm thick (Although this is further increased to 180mm over magazines, and 150mm over machinery). The turrets incorporate 450mm thick frontal armor, 240mm thick side armor, 180mm thick top armor, and 200mm thick rear armor. The barbettes have a thickness of 350mm. Torpedo protection is incorporated as well, including voided spaces, fuel bunkers, and rubber water-excluding material. This provides defense against underwater threats.
Propulsion takes the form of the ship's onboard oil fired equipment. This is capable of producing up to 60,000 horsepower, which can drive the ship to 24 knots. Although this is somewhat slower than some foreign battleship designs under discussion, the decreased mass of the planet enabled smaller size, and thicker armor, as well as superior onboard weapons. Turbo electric propulsion is utilized, in another first for the Marine Nationale.
