Some musings on the HPET, Platform Clock & Dynamic Ticks stuff
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/groups/TheUsefulWindowsGroup/discussions/5/2741975115082070040/

This topic mentions the following

* Disable Platform Clock in bcdedit
* Disable HPET in BIOS settings
* Disable Dynamic Tick in bcdedit

I know the first 2 suggestions are very temperamental depending on your hardware and can cause adverse effects. Disabling Dynamic Ticks however I don't think I've seen anyone mention it worsening system stability (though often it's suggested alongside the other stuff so people may not be testing it on its own), I have however seen people say it's had no effect on anything though.

Additionally there seems to now be this new setting suggestion:
* Enable useplatformtick

I'm about to test this out in conjunction with disabling dynamic ticks.

In modern systems, HPET is required for time synchronization. If you don't have a HPET setting in your BIOS, it likely means you have one of those systems. Disabling platform clock in bcdedit is no longer required (at least in 2022) because the OS will always use a synthetic clock (tsc/vtsc/itsc) rather than a platform clock.

Well my initial tests with

* Disable Dynamic Tick in bcdedit
* Enable useplatformtick

have achieved no discernible impact on system behaviour... though now that I think about it there might be something to this... imma do a quick test.

Edit: Yeah, no discernible difference with those configured differently from the default. I have a Ryzen 3700X and an X570 motherboard running Windows 10 22H2.

Apparently if you use useplatformtick which basically enables RTC, disabledynamictick is not required since RTC is not dynamic.
