Happy 10th Anniversary!

Dear valuable bloggers,

Today marks the 10th anniversary of The Daily SPUF's Official Steam Group's creation! That's right, it was founded all the way back on May 9th 2014 by your's truly. And my my has the time flew!

A big milestone like this requires a big announcement: I'm retiring!

That is correct, after 10 whole years of running this group, I've decided it's finally time to hang up my hat, and leave the reigns to more capable hands. And what better pair of articulate hands to leave them in than the blog's very own Co-Founder, Editor-in-Chief and Website Administrator, Arkay! (formally known as 'The Medic')

Truth be told, I've been wanting to do this for a while, but kept putting it, as they say, on The Backburner. (heh) Then I noticed this date coming up and decided to finally go through with it. I've been neglectful of this place. Heck, I haven't even opened the blog, let alone write for it, in so many many years. And so it is with a heavy heart that I hereby resign my position as Steam Group Manager effective at ~noon PST tomorrow.

Fun little fact, when a Steam Group Owner leaves, the ownership of the group will transfer to the highest-ranking member by join date. For example: If I were to leave immediately, the ownership of this group will go to one of the Officers. In this case, it would be Aabicus, as he joined the group before either Arkay or Sham1. In fact, Aabicus was the first member to join after I created it, so if everyone was demoted to Member status, ownership would still go to him.

And so, to ensure a smooth transition of power, I will demote Aabicus and Sham1 back to Member status. And once I leave, Arkay will then re-promote them back to Officer at nearest convenience.

I would like to extend a huge thank you to both Aabicus and Arkay for allowing me to make this group in the first place 10 years ago. And I'd also like to thank the committed blog staff for their valuable contributions to the site. And most of all I'd like to thank all of you for your attention and time to read not only this announcement, but for every article of The Daily SPUF since inception!

PSA: Daily SPUF thread moving due to SPUF being killed off!!

This is a PSA to get you guys up to speed for what's been happing the past couple of days.

What's happening

At around noon time PST, clicking onto SPUF would instead redirect you to to SCUD. Even if you direct URL'ed the link in your browser, it would redirect. At first people were confused and thought SPUF was just down for maintenance and the Engineer was sleeping. However, people began to notice that the SPUF link on SCUD's main page was removed. That's when people freaked.

For the next day, people were running around trying to figure out what was going on. Until several SPUF mods confirmed that Valve killed it off for real. But, thanks to the backlash, Valve reinstated the forums. However, this is only temporary, as the forums will be permanantly closed off on June 5th forever, in order to give archivers time to collect valuable threads and posts for future public viewing.

What that means for The Daily SPUF

Unfortunately this closure also means that our main news feed thread will also be lost. And so, The Daily SPUF will be moving to a new home. As an emergency measure, I have replaced the SPUF thread link to r/SPUF, located here. However, for now, this is considered temporary. We now have until June 5th to find a new home for the thread. The Editors are discussing alternatives, but we would like to hear your feedback. A discussion thread has been pinned in the main forum so we can discuss this situation. I have also opened the forum to non-group members so any SPUFer who has yet to join the group can chime in.
