The Gold Coast Republic!

Ghana (i /ˈɡɑːnə/), officially the Republic of Ghana, is a country located in West Africa. It is bordered by Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south. The word Ghana means "Warrior King"and is derived from the ancient Ghana Empire that existed in North Africa. It won independence in 1957 from Britain thanks to the work of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who became first Prime Minister (and later President) of the Republic and changed the country's name from the Gold Coast (because of its abundance of raw materials) to Ghana.
