how are the micro trailers generated? they seem choppy/disorienting
based on how choppy the trailers are, I get the sense that they're generated programatically. the transition points feel very arbitrary, and sudden. sometimes there will be two cuts less than a second apart! I don't want to say it's "unpleasant" (that would be a bit strong), but it doesn't give a very good impression of the game. it makes it look like a shoddy effort/confusing to the point of off-putting.

if these are human-generated, by the developers, then perhaps I just saw some exceptionally-poorly-put-together micro trailers, and I guess never mind everything I just said :P

[edit] oh, goodness, watching an entire row of that is just bananas. I don't know how I'm meant to absorb ANY information from 3 poorly-cut videos all playing simultaneously.

okay, I just watched the micro trailer for KARDS... if I was that developer, I would be very annoyed to have my game presented that way! there's a "slow zoom out of the logo; text fades on the bottom" thing (just like a trailer would have!), and half-way through the fade of that text, the whole thing abruptly restarts, with the slow zoom out, and the text starts to fa-- then we cut to an explosion happening on the table, and then that cuts off and replays as well! same explosion! it's kind of comical how bad it is!

a question: as a developer, will I have the ability to opt-out of microtrailers, or provide my own? I have published a game on Steam, and if I ended up with a microtrailer as embarrassing as the one KARDS ended up with, I would absolutely want to opt out of that!

Did you ever learn anything from this? We're looking into how our micro trailer was generated and plan on making a new one to fit the generation better.
Is there any information anywhere how micro trailer choose shots?

Did you ever get an answer? I was wondering, because I think it'd make sense for the developers to create little "chapters" in the original trailer, and steam would adapt/compile these moments, depending on the person looking for the game. So, if someone was looking at an action-oriented, RPG with a big Narrative perspective, but their main focus was action, they'd present mostly action sections of the game.
I think that this is a great feature, and I feel like most studios/publishers would be willing to spent their time creating these little chapters/tags for their videos.

No I didn't. It's strange it is so important for visibility thing but there is no single official info how this are created. I bet developers have to spend time and analyze many videos to see how it is created.
