It has been like that since the last year, I think. I didn’t get many friend invites until then so I don’t know if it was like that earlier.

If a friends-only profile sends a friend request to you, you can view their profile.

If you send a friend request to a friends-only profile, you won’t be able to view their profile.

I’ve added and been added by all sorts of people so I figured it out after a while.

In my experience, it typically happens when the profanity or censored site is at the end of name, resulting in Steam hearts of course, which break the end bracket "]" for the bb code, resulting in a broken quote.

It usually happens with censored words where the filter blocks out any spaces in front of and behind the word.

Example: shit becomes ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the filter, 4 letters to 6 letters. So if someone has that word in the first word or last word of their name, it breaks the [quote=] code when the word filter blocks out the = or the ] part.

I use similar terms when reporting posts too. The moderators just need to know what type of post is being reported and then they can read the reported post themselves if they need clarification.

I only give more details for profile reports as the thing that is being reported may not be as apparent.
