It barely took a month for forums to turn into a flaming dumpster fire
Following the retirement of the community moderators, a lot of people have "predicted" that the Steam forums (which already had problems) would turn into complete ♥♥♥♥ in a very short time.

Posts like this (links below) full of profanity, harassment, and ASCII art of racist slurs, have been flooding the Steam forums and the actual Steam moderators, who are paid to moderate the Steam Community...just don't give a ♥♥♥♥. They're reported...and ignored. They'll stay there for days, weeks, or...forever. Sometimes, they will respond to the complaints of trolls...by warning or banning the people complaining about them.

And this isn't just a random gamehub, it's the Dota 2 gamehub, Valve's own game, Valve's own community...that again, they just don't give a crap about. And this is just one example...of the same stuff that I'm seeing daily on the general Steam forums and Valve gamehubs in particular.

It might get removed, might not. There are other problems too, as many of the former community moderators have pointed out. The "paid" staff doesn't bother to look into context, they don't bother to look into the history of users who have been trolling the forums for years, and they don't seem to give a crap about how many alternate accounts they use to evade community bans.

I'm not really surprised and honestly not too surprised at how quickly it went down the tubes. The paid moderation team knows that there are eyes on them after announcing the retirement of the community moderators, and yet they still don't seem to give a crap. Honestly, it's starting to seem like reporting stuff like this is completely pointless too.

In the past, when Valve didn't give a crap about stuff like this, the community moderators were there as a gap measure. Now, there's nothing. I don't really know what else to say.

I'm not surprised either. I personally have not been to the main Steam forums in a while now (maybe since last year sometime, but make a few posts here and there in it since globals are no more).

It's amazing that they'd give up the most dedicated people that worked for FREE to clean up junk and help around the main Steam forums and even game hub forums.
I'd add a report on the user's profile if they're posting unambiguously racist or obscene stuff.

Guess we'll slowly turn into 4chan or reddit I guess...

Thanks for posting your feelings on this matter, good Boss. I have not been very active in the forums much myself, since the volunteers were retired.

As you also added, in the past the volunteers were more of a stop gap when Valve did not really seem to pay much attention to the Community, as well as suggestions from the mods themselves (they even said they would fly to Washington and have a meeting to discuss it face to face).

But now that they are no more, it does not look good at all for the forums. Heck, if nothing else will show you how bad it is/will be, look at the VAC forum. Hardly any get locked these days, and we know how well that forum was once modded.
