I actually wish they would beef up their 'social media' aspects of steam, like the community stuff, broadcasting [especially], clips and media etc, so that steam might pose some non trivial alternative to the likes of discord and twitch. My greatest short term fear for steam is that one day theyll just mash discord and twitch and the like into my steam client and call it a day, especially since idiot zoomer kids keep asking for it.

Not even close to true....discord is a total free for all zoo. If youre not being harassed by 12 year olds on there, youre being abused by 12yo mods. Its also full of seriously illegal activity which just flies under the radar every day. Maybe once in a while the news will do an article about it and discord will make a coporatey sounding zero tolerance statement, then its back to business as usual. Thats what i dont want anywhere near steam.

guys i dont care about twitch or discord im saying a digital game store does not need to update their UI every day and add useless stuff that there is little to nothing use for it

like they add notes .... the f am i going to do while im playing a game with that? oh sorry my guy let me write how many people i killed in my steam note then we can keep playing the game

I'll admit I'm a decade out of touch with social media apps, stopped using any of them because of how bad the offerings were even back then. I just would hate to see Valve turn Steam into another cesspool of a true 'anti'social media app. But I would love to see them bring back real, consistent, forum moderation across the boards ... take out the trolling teams (with half a dozen alt accounts each), the jester point farmers (just eliminate awards) and make Steam less like mainstream antisocial media apps.

Notes has been extremely helpful to me as an RPG player for keeping track of things that might slip my mind, and doesn't require that I get up and find pen and paper.
Just because you don't use a feature doesn't mean others don't.
You still have a place to play your games, you can literally just ignore the features you don't want to use.
The extra features is literally the whole reason I use Steam over any other platform, and that includes epic, which has handed out hundreds of free games.

There are games where you do something other than click heads you know. Buy and play Myst, then you will be glad for notes.

I agree with the sentiment. I prefer a minimalist UI too. Just a storefront, game library, well moderated forums and an in-game overlay with a web browser to look up something on a game wiki if needed. Be great if Valve offered a Steam-Lite app ...

Wait till you find out the new steam client they released a few years ago IS a web browser. Its not a native app, the entire interface is technically a web page running in a stripped down version of chrome lol. The old steam client [VGUI] was actually a native app.

yes indeed ... and built on an out of date version of chromium to boot ... I also miss the true native steam app.
