steam://unlockh264/ shouldn't be required to play back h264 on linux systems
If you get trouble when friends send you videos on steam chats, run
steam steam://unlockh264/

It "unlocks" h264 and lets it playback. Persists through restart/reboot.

What is the point of disabling this by default on linux? The fact it is a dedicated steam protocol command means it was meant to do something at some point, but I can't even imagine what kind of prehistoric hardware you have to be on to be unable to do something as basic as h264 playback.

Please enable this by default! The formal bugreport for this at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/6780 has stalled for now 6 years, and I'm hoping this brings attention to liberate us.
