The playtime de-syncs in certain conditions related to connection to the Steam servers/internet.
IMPORTANT: Estrecio on Steam has already pointed this out (https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/discussions/forum/1/4031347532806609950/?ctp=2), I'm just pointing it out here again, because this has happened to me too.

Issue: If any game is disconnected from the internet during play/when closing it, the server playtime cannot record/upload playtime, but the local playtime still records and counts playtime, creating a currently unfixable glitch.

OS: Windows 11 (the bug is independent from the OS)

Version: Stable Client

Steps:
1. Run ANY Steam game.
2. Disconnect your PC from the internet when the game is running/before you close it.
3. Close the game while the internet is off.
The server-side playtime gets stuck at the moment of disconnection, but rebooting Steam/checking your profile page shows a bigger time value (local playtime) which is the sign of the glitch. Also, when going to your library after a Steam restart, the local playtime is displayed, but when launching the game, the server playtime is displayed (the playtime suddenly decreases).

Explanation:
There's a local playtime, which counts playtime regardless of your connection to the Steam servers/internet; and the server playtime, which needs the Steam servers to record and upload itself. If the game cannot connect to the Steam server/internet upon closing the game, the server playtime will not update, but the local playtime will. This creates a time difference, which is unresolvable as of October of 2025. This is apparent in the personal game page, the profile page, and the library, where the the store page shows the server playtime for the user, the profile page shows the local playtime, and the library shows both (when launching Steam, it shows the local playtime, but when launching the game, it shows the server playtime). When performing this glitch, the server playtime is ALWAYS the smaller value, and the local playtime is ALWAYS the bigger value.

Expected: The playtimes should be syncing no matter what.

This glitch is, in fact, trivial, but is affecting more and more Steam users worldwide.
I would be really happy if Valve checks and fixes this glitch, even if it doesn't use my idea.

FOR EVERY MODERATOR AND VALVE EMPLOYEE:
Please don't lock this thread. This issue is still prevalent.
