Steam Input incorrect response curves for diagonals
Issue: The response curves on controllers are disproportionately low while inputting diagonally.

OS: Ubuntu 23.10

Steps:
Configure a non-standard response curve(More noticeable on wider curves), then try to use that response curve in any situation that requires diagonal input(Most situations).

The result is the input generally becomes slower than it should be while making diagonal input, getting worse the closer to 100% diagonal you get.

The expected result is that it gets treated the same as a straight horizontal or vertical input, and thus actually reaches 100% when fully diagonal and pushing the stick all the way.

Further info: this appears to be an issue in the stable branch as well.

Reviving this because it's still an issue almost 4 months later. Set the response curve to 50 and you'll only get about 20% output in diagonals, but 100% in horizontal and vertical. This is absolutely not how response curves are supposed to work, and it blows my mind this not only made it into a stable release but hasn't been fixed in months.

Hello. Just writing to let you know that I've been looking into response curves and acceleration. You seem to be observing "axial" acceleration curves as opposed to "2D magnitude" based acceleration curves.

Both styles have their uses.

I've looked into the history of the code, however, and we've been applying axial acceleration since 2010.

I hope to address this at some point in 2024.

Still noticing this in games today sadly. A ton of indie shooters without native controller support would feel playable on controller if this was fixed
