I have that option & had added this game (as on non-steam) much before game launched on steam & playing it, thinking one day when the game launches on steam it will count my play time..which is about 15k+ hrs. & 40k+ achievements.. but lol.. this that wont happen looks like..
Feels a bit risky.. but can be tried out

1. When you run the SWTOR install via Steam, it creates a new SWTOR folder within the Steam folder. i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars - The Old Republic
2. Copy/Move all of the existing game files and sub-folders from where you originally installed the game, into the new Stream SWTOR folder. i.e C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic → C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars - The Old Republic
3. Once done, just launch the game in Steam.
NOTE: I would wait to delete/uninstall your original game until you know that you can properly patch/update the game via Steam. It should work since it uses the same SWTOR launcher, but you never truly know until you've tried it.
Consider instead copying just the "assets", "movies", and "swtor" subfolders. These cover about 98% of the total installation. Everything else is trivially small.
if you used the BitRaider torrent installer instead of the original retail version installer, copied files may not work correctly and you may have to redownload normally.
Regarding play time tracking: no, time spent playing as a "Non-Steam Game" cannot carry over.
Devs say achievements will automatically carry over once implemented in Steam later this year.
