Notifications
Just picked the game up on sale and one super annoying thing that keeps happening is that every time I get an achievement or a new item I get a Steam notification in the corner that wont ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ go away. I keep having to exit the game to get them to go away.

I give exactly zero ♥♥♥♥♥ about achievements or playing cards. I just don't want the notification taking up the bottom right corner of the screen. I tried to Google the problem and people keep talking about hitting ctrl+shift+backspace to bring up some menu, that doesn't do anything. Anyone know a way to stop these stupid notification from showing up?

You just got your answer yourself.

CTRL+Shift+Backspace opens control menu in which you tweak settings (including turning off custom achievements popups if that is what you were talking about) of FAR mod and if you can't bring THAT up then something is going on at your end.

Navigate to My Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Global and open achievements.ini in Notepad.

Change the following parameters to the specified value:

PopupDuration=0 AnimatePopup=false

This will cause FAR's built-in achievement popup to not pop at all.

PopupDuration specifies the number of milliseconds that the notification should stay on screen.
AnimatePopup specifies whether the notification should be animated (slide in from off-screen) when it appears.

I would still look up about not opening control panel despite changing ini file.

If he can't open Control Panel then who knows what else isn't working.

Probably running Windows 7 and the latest version of FAR. For some reason the control panel doesn’t open on some systems with the versions bundling CEGUI within the DLL file. v0.7.0.21 probably works fine though.

Nont running FAR unless it comes with the Steam download and as I said CTRL+Shift+Backspace does not do anything.

... Huh? Now you're making me even more confused. FAR does not come with Steam. It must be downloaded and installed separately after the game have been downloaded. Ctrl+Shift+Backspace is a FAR related shortcut, so it won't do anything if FAR is not installed.

If you don't have FAR, why are you posting in this forum? This is a forum dedicated to FAR and issues with it in NieR:Automata. It is not really dedicated to regular issues the vanilla game itself can experience.

You're running in Big Picture Mode I assume? (I haven't ever encountered it in the normal overlay).

You can turn texxture caching off and it should go away (if my software is causing it). It could just as likely be anything else that draws an overlay that's confusing the Steam overlay... this is a problem that's existed for years now.
