With the success of games like The Stanley Parable and Dear Esther I've been very curious about the Source Engine and what its capable of. I've messed around with Unity a bit and the graphics (lighting/shadows) and physics seem underwhelming. I'm curious though about Source.

I know that each Source game generally has its own Authoring Tools release. Do all of these tools have feature parity? I.E. Does L4D2 and Portal 2 SDKs have the same feature set? Or will I have to use Multi-Tool AND install all of the SDKs to get the most features? Or is the Multi-Tool just for combining assets like levels, props, and models from each of the games? When using Multi-Tool should I be installing the SDKs/Authoring Tools or the games as well?

Yes - I am nerding out over this on New Year's Day! LOL
