Bill officially comes into effect on June 2012 if Parliament gets enough people who favor it.

I'll just leave this here. First copy of it: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/32793717/donttreadonmerj45.png

Mr. ♥♥♥♥, y u no think? We created this group to raise awareness. Clearly, through posts like yours, you can see how uninformed people are. The bill hasn't passed, we've simply signed it. It means that when it does pass, we'll agree to follow it. Signing a bill means nothing until the bill goes into effect.

"ARTICLE 41: WITHDRAWAL
A Party may withdraw from this Agreement by means of a written notification to the Depositary. The withdrawal shall take effect 180 days after the Depositary receives the notification." - quoted from the bill itself.

ACTA has a withdraw plan. If a country sends in a resignation, they can withdraw from the bill after 180 days. Besides, at this point we're fighting more for Europe and others who haven't already signed the bill yet.

We've won!
Apophix 24 Jan, 2012 @ 12:19pm
It's signed, that doesn't mean it's in effect. It is an international bill, which means it must be signed by all the countries involved in order to take effect.

DMCA is limited by the fact that it is not on a global scale, and intellectual property remains relatively unaffected.

In addition, DMCA encroaches very little into the online territory of things.
BigDorbo 23 Jan, 2012 @ 6:52pm
You do realize that this is just like DMCA except for the world. It is not that big of a deal.

I do not understand this.
