EDIT: They have indeed blocked non-buyers from posting on their forums. Cowardly developers, I don't think they should be given any options like this.
And wow, "You can't talk at all unless we already have your money. that way if you speak of things we don't like we can ban you and give you the middle fingure." is what they are saying to all of the ex SF supporters.
They can't just go "we apologized, ah well, what a shame but we're keeping this money after fraudulent advertisment." What you said, yeah... these devs should be banned from using steam, if they don't fix their mess.
If they gave me a refund, I would not care much at all, after all, then I'd have no more beef with them. But right now I got a pile of **** named star forge in my game library and I could really use the bit of cash back.
But that would be too honest and decent for such devs.
I'll keep it in mind as a badge of honor.
That being said... these devs are abusing Steam and they're abusing their customers, I'd actually forgotten about the game for a while but by now I'm once again pissed off...
I seriously want Valve to just kick them out, other games have been kicked out for "death threats" or simply being particularly notorious ie Hatred (albeit for both examples only temporarily), so Valve clearly can and will decide what games are and aren't deserving to be in the store... heck, ArcheAge was removed for a while and they, at least, delivered even if it was crap. These devs are as toxic as it gets, and they not only remain, they're still abusing their control over the forums, and they've basically gotten away with fraudulent marketing... and Valve just leaves it alone.
Believe you me, I had pages upon pages of "this comment has been moved or deleted" notifications from the SF forums, as I didn't have the opportunity to unsub from a lot of posts before I was banned. Steam won't really do much as long as they get their cut IMO, the devs have got away with locking down those forums for the best part of a year now. Interestingly, the post linked when I was banned was me saying that I was ashamed to have put so much time into moderating for them and not seeing it until it was far too late (trolling and abusive behaviour reason). I only found out exactly what Juno knew when the NDA expired, which was far too late.
No one did anything about it. The majority of the game's community believed in their promises, because they hadn't heard of this sort of thing happening. Once it happened, they sort of just blocked it away.
Starforge's my first time buying a game that just abandoned its customers like this, and not to mention my first time dealing with developers who've basically given the middle finger to their community like this.... I know there are others, though.
There is always some "risk" with early access, sure, but at this point it's just a falsely advertised scam, it doesn't belong on Steam at all.
