He had told his friends he was tired of this world and wanted to see what was in the afterlife, if anything. He left his gas stove on and took a nap. I think it was about ten years ago.

From the post way back, it sounded like it was more his curiosity than anything he didn't like about his life. He just really wanted to know and didn't want to wait. Nobody would say much more than that at the time.
